Dr. Sevada Hakobyan is a board-certified and New York State-licensed Doctor of Optometry, who provides comprehensive eye care at Visual Ophthalmology Services.
Dr. Hakobyan was born and raised in Armenia. After graduating from high school Dr. Hakobyan earned his medical degree at Yerevan State Medical University. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Malayan’s Eye Center (Yerevan, Armenia). While working as a general ophthalmologist in Armenia, Dr. Hakobyan did several short-term fellowships in India, Poland, Austria, Russia, Ukraine, and the USA in the field of ophthalmic plastic surgery, general ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, and contact lenses.
After moving to the United States in 2011, Dr. Hakobyan joined REDIARC (Retinal Diseases Image Analysis Reading Center) team of Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at University Hospitals (Cleveland, Ohio). He worked as a Senior Retinal Analyst providing image analysis and evaluation for a variety of retinal diseases, including clinical trials in age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular diseases. In the periods from 2017 to 2019, Dr. Hakobyan completed the Advanced Standing Program at SUNY College of Optometry (New York, NY).
During his clinical rotations, he worked in a wide range of different settings such as fast-paced private practices, research-oriented university hospitals as well as disease-focused VA hospital settings.
Dr. Hakobyan speaks English, Russian, Armenian and conversational Spanish.
